Lexi, an AI-Powered Medical Interpretation Service, wins iF Gold Award

Lexi, an AI-powered medical interpretation service, won an iF Gold Award in Spring 2025. The team project by Jim Hansen, Linh Pham, Daniel Rodriquez Rodriquez, and Siddharth Ur (all MDE ’25) began in the Collaborative Design Engineering Studio course. Linh and Siddharth then continued developing the project in the Independent Design Engineering course, and the team has since created a startup.

About Lexi: Around 30 million patients in the U.S. struggle to understand medical care due to language barriers, leading to errors, readmissions, and increased costs. Lexi is a multi-lingual, AI-powered medical interpretation service combining hardware and software: the Lexi Pin for real-time translation, a Provider Panel integrated into healthcare workflows, and a Patient App with post-visit summaries. This HIPAA-compliant solution enables direct communication with LEP patients, fostering trust. Scalable across settings, Lexi improves care quality, reduces costs, and advances health equity, building a more inclusive, efficient healthcare system.
