The platform grew out of their Independent Design Engineering Project, a year-long project that requires MDE students to develop and prototype a solution to a complex problem of their choosing.

The NASA SUITS team from Harvard University—Erin McLean (MDE ’19), Audrey Haque (MDE ’20), Hane Roh (MDE ’20), Nicolas Oueijan (MDes ’19), Emily Yang (MDE ’20), and Hanif Wicaksono (MDE ’20)— traveled to NASA’s Johnson Space Center to test their competition entry, “Mixed Reality Spacesuit UX Design for Extravehicular Activity Emergency Situation.” Their work was well received and commended for its design and prototyping methodology.
